Kung Pow: Enter the crap
OK, so I'd seen the ads for Kung Pow: Enter the Fist when it was out a while back, and I was curious but not willing to pay. Then I noticed it was playing on HBO this week, so I Tivo'd it and watched it over the past two nights.

I feel like I should invoice the studio for my time, and maybe emotional and mental anguish. How the hell did this complete piece of shit get the green light? I mean, the technical achievement I can kind of admire, and it is kind of scary how well they managed to insert people into the old film seamlessly (the summer's hit comedy - Jim Carrey in Casablanca! ph34r), but the actual 'script' just wasn't funny. It was annoying more than anything else. Any jokes that might have been funny were made unfunny by being beaten into the ground.

I am: stunned
Current Media: office buzz

Myself and a number of other martial artists found it supremely entertaining. I guess it takes all kinds...

I think the only reason I found any of it funny was because it gave you the giggles, and being in a room with giggling fubars is entertaining in itself :)

There were bits I found funny - the thing with the hands, him imagining the different ways to attack, etc. But some things, *especially* the voices, got *real* old for me. I think that, if they hadn't done the stupid shit with the voices (ooooeoeoeoeoeoeeeeeoeoeee, etc) I might have liked it. But by the halfway point I was praying for less dialogue.

And I like bad kung fu films.

Makes me glad that my brain and body decided to both take a nap at the time...

It's a bad movie, no doubt.

And one that you can't just sit through and watch - even if you're intentionally drunk like I was when I first saw it.

Overall I think it just suffered from a common ailment of movies lately - editors afraid to cut crap. Admittedly, if they cut most of the crap out of this one there wouldn't be a lot of movie left. But at least it wouldn't be so dull to sit through.

On the other hand, it's a great movie to watch in little bursts while you're doing something else. And there are some pretty good lines...

"You must have been pretty good to defeat my cow! Nya-ha-hahaha!"

"(Students Chanting:) One! Of us! Is wearing! A push-up bra!"

I wouldn't give it more than half a star, but I still find it strangely entertaining on multiple viewings.
