Anyone interested in Superman Returns in IMAX 3D?
I was thinking of going to one of the IMAX 3D showings of Superman Returns in Natick. 4:20, 7:15, or 10:10 Monday? 4:50 or 7:45 Tuesday? Anyone interested? (Note, the website doesn't work in Firefox.)

EDIT: OK, Monday @ 4:20 is it. 7:15 is already unavailable online so it'll probably be sold out. If you want to go I suggest getting your ticket online ASAP and just let me know and we'll meet up there. :-)

Make that Monday @ 4:20. The 7:15 show is already unavailable online so it'll be sold out. I just picked up my ticket for 4:20.

I don't recommend it, actually.
The IMAX 3D tech is blurry as is, and with the amount of shake and quick motion, it makes several scenes that would have been neat to watch useless. More's the pity, because the print and sound on the non-3d parts is *beautiful*

Let me ask this, then: is the fast panning in Superman worse than it is in "The Bourne Supremacy"?

On it's own? No. It's done better, there's less of it, and it's only really done when it makes sense.the problem is that it is made significantly worse by whatever it is that they do to make it 3D. This means that, unfortunatly, even the stuff that is supposed to be in focus during the shot (Supes flying really fast through a city, for example) is blurry.

There isn't really anything in the process that ought to make it blurry. The easiest explanation would be if you were wearing the active LCD glasses that actually black out the left eye when the right eye frame is on screen and vice versa. Any malfunction in those causing them to get out of sync or what have you would fuck things up in a hurry (if you take the glasses off at a screening, you'll see what I mean. You've actually got two projectors running the left eye and right eye strips of film and the projectors are synchronized so that only one eye is on screen at a time, for like 1/48th of a second or whatever it works out to. Watching that without the synced glasses is headache-inducing.)

The simple polarized glasses are a little more fool-proof but lower tech. You don't get quite the same separation as you do with the LCD system. And, uhh, you don't wear polarized glasses or anything, do you? ;)

No, it was a different blur then with the glasses off. Almost like the projectors were out of sync. Which also could have been the case, I guess.

Technical issues aside I have no problem with that. My eyesight isn't fantastic to begin with so everything around me is already a little blurry. Yes, I have and wear glasses to correct that but my optometrist recomended that I not wear them unless I need to.

The Super Jerk-O-Vision that is The Bourne Supremacy is a different issue entirely. it's done gratuitously and it is nausea-inducing. I actually had to leave the theater when I saw it so that I wouldn't puke.

Anyway, I'm in for the afternoo show. As they and I say, we'll se.

I've been wanting to check out the tech for a while, and the movie was one I wasn't sure about but so many people have said it is worth seeing that I thought I'd kill to birds with one stone.

If the movie is really that good, I'll see it again on a normal screen - I live a few blocks from a megaplex where I normally go.

I've just seen it. Without any spoilers, people were literally bouncing up and down in their seats out of pure joy at the theater, and I was too. I am not a bouncer.

Or I haven't been since that one Halloween party in college.

Boy, I have a dirty mind.

By the way? The site worked with Firefox for me but utterly failed with either Safari or Camino.

Go fig.
