Today's XKCD is definitely one of the ones that will split the audience into "Huh? I don't get it" and "Brilliant!" camps.

For the record, I laughed my ass off - long and loud. I think it is hilarious.

I'm such a geek. ;-)

"I don't know who she was, man... and I signed her public key!"

Truly laugh-out-loud funny.

I don't get it in a more meta sense; trust is not fungible. I have good friends that you cannot trust, and you have good friends that I cannot trust, so a key signed by either of us will be meaningless in just two steps. ...which means that, if I find a person with a key "signed by Zoner!", it might as well have been something you did while you were drunk for all the good it does me.

Well, it isn't necessarily that kind of trust. It is more that my me signing their key I'm saying I met them in person and verified their identity. So if you deal with them later you have some measure of trust that it is really C you're dealing with, and not D pretending to be C.
