Yay! Digital cable!

Charter has *finally* wired my street for Digital Cable. I'm actually a bit impressed, they'd told me they'd have it done by the end of the year when I moved in in June, but, from past experience with telcos and cable companies, I didn't really believe them. But I just remembered to check my mail for today and there was the note from Charter notifying me of the new service availability. I just called them to confirm and place my order. I was hoping they could bring me the new boxes this week, since I'll probably be starting my new job on Monday, but the earliest they could do it was Monday. So I've got them scheduled for Tuesday morning right now, which I think I should be able to clear ok with work. All the better to take advantage of with my TiVos! I understand Nick has been playing Invader Zim on Nick Toons. Since they have their head completely up their ass when it comes to airing it on Nick itself, maybe I can finally catch the episodes I don't have on tape yet. And hurrah for having BBC American again! I hope Ground Force is still airing. *checks website* Yes it is! Yay! And Discovery Wings once again as well! And The Science Channel! All the cool stuff again! Just in time for me to start working and drastically reduce my TV watching! Er...

No Oxygen though, Charter has 'We' - Women's Entertainment. Darn, I liked Oxygen... Ok, I liked that they have the rights to Xena. ;-)

Oh, and they're running a promo right now so the package with HBO is the same as the one without. And the dude on the phone said it wasn't a limited time promo thing. Well, it is in that you have to sign up while it is offered, but he said if I signed up now I'd get it at the same price at least to 2004. So I did it. Maybe I'll find something on HBO to watch now and then. I've heard good things about The Sopranos.

I'm sticking with Verizon ADSL though. The pricing for Charter Pipeline is in two tiers, the lower tier is about the same price but only 768/128Kbps, and I'm pretty sure I get much more than that with my current ADSL connection. And while my ADSL link is sometimes a little flaky, so was the cable modem at my last place.

I wish I'd gotten the job a week sooner. was running a promo where new DSL subscribers would get a *FREE* XBOX or PS2 when they signed up. I've been thinking that I'd probably switch to them once I had a job, because I can get a line with a static IP, etc, and run my own servers - and they are happy to have you do it. Verizon is PPPoE and disapproves of servers - but they're cheap. The promo ended 10/31 though, and I didn't know I'd be having work so I couldn't justify spending more money. Oh well. I'll wait a while longer and get some money in the bank first I suppose. I really need another solid box before I do it anyway. Right now the one box I have is my dual-boot desktop, and I'd want a box I can run constantly as the server.

Ok, time to crash.
