The Ramblings of a Damaged Mind
What LJ communities are you part of?
A while back there was a meme for posting a list of all your LJ friends and how you knew them. That gave me an idea that I've just gotten around to - posting a list of all the LJ communities i'm part of, and what they're about. I thought it might be interesting for a few reasons:
- Perhaps expose people to a community they didn't know about
- Find out what common interests I may share with people who read my LJ
- I hope others pick up the meme and do the same, I'm curious
- If you see a community 'missing' from my list (ie, you think I'd be interested in one and I'm not part of it), let me know - maybe I'll find another interesting group

Oh my, that prompted me to find my own school's (pretty much silent) LJ community. I'm not sure what to think of the entire concept of them and LJ. *Tables it*

One thing I think I would find interesting is the general traffic of these communities - which are the largest among all the duplicate purpose communities and how the duplicates differ in feel and focus too.

While I sometimes wander into communities to read a bit, I'm not active in any really and only have one friendslisted.

Ok that's nice and informative although I have one issue to bring up. "lovingeekladies --For those of us who appreciate our women with a brain" Ok, not only do I have an issue with it, it fucking pisses me off! Just because some of us are not geeks does not mean we don't have a brain!

And don't give me that "I'm not saying that only geek women have brains" crap. It's fucking discriminating! Who fucking cares if a woman is a geek or not?! That shouldn't even be an issue. And I've met PLENTY of geek women who were downright retarded! Shouldn't you be happy if a woman wants to date you regardless of whether she's a geek or not?!

Oh, but it's cool you like to give cunnilingus.

Ok I apologize. I always get pissy at people when they get angry in my journal. I'm just in one of those female moods that brings out the feminist in me. Sorry. I still think I'm right but I didn't need to use that tone. And also there was no need for me to use "or not" in the same sentence as "regardless".

And don't give me that "I'm not saying that only geek women have brains" crap.

Well, it is true - my statement isn't an exclusive OR. Plus there are more than tech geeks - theater geeks, art geeks, etc. So it is a broad statement.

Of course, you shouldn't take it that seriously anyway, I'm a sarcastic bastard and often have my tongue in my cheek. I'm well aware that not all geeks have a brain, and that there are people who would never consider themselves geeks who are intelligent. And, of course, you have the geeks who cross into the realm of otaku and just get creepy.

From personal experience I know that dating a woman who isn't intelligent doesn't work for me. We end up not being able to talk about much since I *am* a geek, and most of the things in my life are technical, etc. Even if the sex is great, that only helps a little. It definitely helps if the woman I'm dating has some ability to understand me and what I do, and that her life is interesting to me in return. The odds are just better if she's a geek as well that we'll understand each other and communicate better. But it certainly isn't exclusively the case.

So - still waiting for people to share their own community lists :-)
