Big O is an anime that has been airing on Cartoon Network. The series finale was tonight. It is a total mind fuck. I'm watching it again now just to see if I can make more sense of it.

I find that mindfuck anime just leaves me cold these days, and this was no exception. Anno had *genuine mental issues,* kids; trying it at home isn't really recommended, and it just produces bad plotting and horribly botched execution of things like, oh, endings that actually resolve the buildup.

My mental image of Konaka is currently hovering somewhere around Indie Rock Pete from Diesel Sweeties.

I think I've come to find that it's more the out of left field things that drive me up. I do not mind things that go and wrap your mind in twists, cf. Lain. On the other hand, I have a lot of issues with ones that do it gratuitiously, and does not realize that there has to be at least one layer of resolution ... and a cosmic reset button (of any sort) isn't it.

(The one exception to this rule is Mighty Max and I don't think I've ever seen anyone pull that off in a good fashion ever again)

Lain and Alice had resolution, of a sort.

This... doesn't.
