So my TiVo decided to grab a few episodes of the old Burt Ward 'Batman' series as suggestions off Nick, or TV Land, or something. Anyway, I watched a couple of them earlier today just for laughs. I remember I used to watch it as a kid and thought it was amusing.

So the two episodes I watched were two parts of a Penguin episode. And, well... drugs. That's the only explanation I can think of for that show staying on the air - drugs. The acting is so very, very bad. And only childhood innocence could keep someone from noticing the slash overtones. :-) God, the costumes even look totally cheap. Wow, it isn't even cheese, it is like a processed pasteurized cheese-food product.

Um, not even childhood innocence could keep this someone from noticing the slash overtones. I still remember thinking about that when I was about 8 years old and wondering if you could do that.

I have the one episode in mind, with them standing in an ever shrinking area that was not freezing. I remember it as having Batman telling Robin that if they just rub their bodies together things will be fine. I suspect it has mutated in my mind, but even at 8, I knew there was more than friendship in that kind of thing. Hell, I must have had a filthy mind even as a child.

You're wondering how it stayed on the air? I think you just answered your own question. Not only was it campy (like Lost in Space) and good for a couple laughs, but it was probably the only show on the air at the time with a couple possibly homosexual lead characters.

...and everyone knows the words to the theme.
