Screwed!

Bumps in the road

Well on the way to lunch today I picked up a good size bolt in my right front tire in the construction on Route 20. Fortunately it went right in and sealed. I was able to drive it to the Goodyear tire center not far from work.

The car is up on the lift. It is *obvious* my dealer never rotated my tires, as I suspected. Being front wheel drive the front tires are much more worn. In fact my *left* front tire is almost down on the wear strips. The bolt in the right is big enough that they think it probably tore up the belts, so repair isn't recommended. My left rear tire had a leak repaired in the past.

So I could get 2 new tires and keep the old rears. But what the hell, they're putting on four new Goodyear Eagle HPs. They're H-rated, the old tires were T-rated. So it should handle better, and probably be a bit quieter. I'm keeping the rear rubber, just in case.

So, instead of working, right now I'm waiting for my car.

Answers

Well, to take my mind off of the $611.60 I spent on tires today, I'll answer the 4 questions I've received so far from my poll. Feel free to ask more.

Are you as sexy as you sound on LJ?

Um... *blush* I sound sexy? Are you sure you have the right person? I generally don't think of myself as sexy. Frankly I'm a 6'6" overweight pasty white (hooray for Irish blood) geek boy. Personality wise, I am who I am in my LJ. I don't get into adopting 'online personas' and that kind of thing, so what I post is the real me. Of course, we all act differently in different environments, etc, so I'd say it is only one aspect of who I am. Looks wise - well, I posted some pics before. Something I'll organize my photos, but for now - feel free to poke around in here.

You down with OPP?

Yeah you know me!

Do you envision yourself as a father someday?

No. I mean, if I think about it I can picture it. But I don't believe I ever want to have children of my own. Too much hassle.

Are you willing to drive across country to have fun?

If I could get the time, not have to worry about working to pay my bills, etc - I'd love to drive right across country taking my sweet time and just stopping where and when I felt like it. I'm hoping to be able to do at least a couple week road trip sometime in the next few years.

MacOS X 10.3 missing fonts - bad web designers panic

I can't believe there are people designing web pages who are fucking stupid enough to rely on specific *fonts* being installed for their pages to look right! OK - I can believe it, I'm rarely surprised by the depths some folks 'talent' can reach, especially in web design. But mighty fuck, so some Microsoft fonts aren't installed unless you install IE, Office, etc. What a complete shock. Get over it - then try to get a life. Then maybe try to design your web pages without being fucking idiots.

I left a couple of comments - *trying* not to just say "You're all fucking dolts!"

Tires

Well, one thing I'll say is that on the short drive back to the office from the tire place gave me some time to try the feel. The car *does* feel more responsive to the wheel, and the ride felt smooth. But I expect some of that is just new tires vs old tires. Though the aggressive sweep I pulled coming into the lot didn't chatter and there was no tire noise, which is what I was used to with the old tires for a long time.

I'm off, going home, so I'll get a little feel of what they're like in the highway at speed. :-) Maybe I'll get around to posting a bit about my weekend - it involves my parents and death.
