And the geeks shall inherit the earth...

Beauty & the Geek: When Stereotypes Collide

So... An MIT grad won Miss Massachusetts and is going on to compete for Miss America.

Even though I haven't watched any such pageant in, um, I don't know, 20 years - I think I was still mid-teens, that's kind of cool. And reading all the stuff she's done and been involved in, at her age, makes me feel like a total fucking slacker.

Today is looking up...

I started off today feeling really tired and a bit off-kilter, and then when I got to work there were several fires in need of attention. But I've gotten most of them stomped out and it is under control.

Then the mail came and three new CDs with it - #4 in Ani's official bootleg series Boston 11.16.03 - and two RBR artists' CDs that I haven't heard but decided to try - Andrew Bird's The Mysterious Production of Eggs and Hamell On Trial's Ed's Not Dead --- Hamell Comes Alive.

And then z_gryphon posted the final two parts of the Tales of ReRob's Wedding - which is one of my favorite stories from our wacky past. Reading it and remembering it all made me laugh out loud. For those who missed the earlier bits - here they all are: part1, part 2, part 3, part 4, and part 5.

I just hope things stay upbeat. If I'm lucky we'll get enough snow to close work tomorrow. But I doubt that.

Our tax dollars at work

Only this time, it is really frelling cool!

It is a massive download, but you've got to check out World Wind from NASA. One of my co-workers installed this and I was checking it out today. It kicks ass - it is just so cool. Satellite imagery, maps, topographic maps, all accessible and overlaid... And the interface is cool.

I've got to install this at home to have time to play with it.
