Meet the Robinsons - in 3D!

Tonight I went to see Meet the Robinsons with charmingmuse - and we saw the "Disney Digital 3D" version. The 3D is actually looking pretty good. Theaters showing it are using digital projection and polarized glasses. It looks like they'e using the REAL D system. The glasses are a lot nicer than the ones I've experience in the past - they're styled kind of like cheap sunglasses, a bit like Ray-Ban Wayfarers. The arms fold, unlike the rigid glasses I've seen in the past.

The movie was OK, not something I see becoming a classic, but OK for entertainment. There were a few scenes that were a bit too much "Look! This is in 3-D!", but, for the most part, it was unobtrusive and worked well. I really could see more films using 3D without it being gimmicky like the old red & blue glasses. They also showed trailers for a few other movies coming in 3D, like the re-re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which looks like it will be getting a wide 3D release this fall after the limited 3D re-release last year.

The Departed

OK, so I just watched The Departed for the first time - rented via Amazon Unbox on my TiVo - and I thought it was a good movie. The last bit was a bit... harsh shall we say. But it is Scorsese picture, so I wasn't expecting unicorns and rainbows. But it left me with one question: Collapse )
Hmm, I think I need to track down Infernal Affairs - the Hong Kong movie this was based on.
