Voice Post: Zoner's Movie Night Part 3

“[The Spinvox transcription made so little sense, I had to go back and transcribe the previous calls just so I could figure out what was going on. —R_M]

Hey, it's me again. I'm a little pissed off. If I hadn't gotten misled by that website, I could have still seen them. Using my Treo to check times, they are showing them at Blackstone Valley at 12:01; both Wanted and Wall-E are having 12:01 shows. Unfortunately, when I found this I was out, I was more than about ten minutes away, which is how long I would have had to get there. So, if I hadn't gotten misled by the website—partially my fault, I guess, for not going in earlier, thinking, "Oh, I've got like half an hour before the showtime, I can saunter in now…" I probably could have gotten back in my car and blasted over to Blackstone. But by the time I found out there wasn't a showing and managed to look it up on my Treo, it was too late to get there. So, yeah, karmic shifting [?] has just kind of screwed my plans. Oh well, it's not like the end of the world or anything, just disappointing. Guess I'll just see it tomorrow. Bye."”

Epic fail, no movie for me

So I somewhat covered this in my voice posts while I was AFK, but here's what happened.

Earlier tonight I thought "Oh yeah, WALL-E and Wanted both open tomorrow. I'll take a look at the show times to think about when I want to see one or both of them." So I hit Moviefone.commovies.aol.com and looked at the times for Friday. And I saw this for Showcase Cinemas Worcester North:
WALL-E (G, 103 min.)
12:10am | 10:30am | 11:00am | 11:30am | 1:00pm | 1:30pm | 2:00pm | 3:30pm | 4:00pm | 4:30pm | 6:20pm | 6:50pm | 7:20pm | 8:50pm | 9:20pm | 9:50pm | 11:10pm | 11:40pm

Wanted (R, 110 min.)
12:35am | 10:15am | 10:45am | 1:10pm | 1:40pm | 4:10pm | 4:40pm | 7:10pm | 7:40pm | 10:00pm | 10:30pm

And this for National Amusements Blackstone Valley:
WALL-E (G, 103 min.)
12:20am | 11:05am | 11:35am | 12:05pm | 1:35pm | 2:05pm | 2:35pm | 4:00pm | 4:30pm | 5:00pm | 6:30pm | 7:00pm | 7:30pm | 8:55pm | 9:25pm | 9:55pm | 11:20pm | 11:50pm

Wanted (R, 110 min.)
12:05am | 12:35am | 10:30am | 11:00am | 1:15pm | 1:45pm | 3:50pm | 4:20pm | 4:50pm | 7:15pm | 7:45pm | 9:30pm | 10:00pm | 10:30pm

Silly me, I thought those times might be, oh, in order. But no, the 12:xx times are actually on *Saturday* - that's midnight Friday night, Saturday morning. I guess I can be forgiven for getting that wrong, since the website itself seems to think they mean FRIDAY too. It is now 00:10 and the 12:05am showing for Wanted at Blackstone is grayed out, which they do for showings in the past. Ugh. And I'm not the only one, while I was making my voice post just after learning there was no showing, other people were coming in looking confused. The theater locked the doors while I was there, probably tired of people coming in looking for the midnight shows. The woman I talked to kind of sighed exasperatedly when I asked if there was a WALL-E showing tonight.

Of course, if I'd just gone to Blackstone, which is all the way across town from me, and then a ways out of town actually, instead of ShoWoNo, which I could probably see from my house if not for intervening buildings, I still would've been OK. Because it turns out Blackstone did have showings tonight - 12:01 for both movies. But by the time I went into ShoWoNo, realized there were no showings, then thought to check show times on my Treo, got the listings, etc - there was no way in hell I could've made it from the parking lot at ShoWoNo to Blackstone in time. Well... certainly not legally, and still likely not possible even with my car. (Might've been fun to try... but I don't need to land in prison for the sake of a movie. Going over twice the speed limit on I290 through Worcester is probably ill-advised.)

So, yeah, burnt by bad programming. I suppose I should've thought to check Thursday, then I would've seen the Blackstone listings and probably figured it out, but I wasn't looking for midnight shows but normal Friday night showings. So when I saw the listings I thought "Bonus! I can see it tonight!" And didn't expect it to be a lazy coder using a standard time sort to display the show times no matter the order. And the two post-midnight show times at Blackstone would've twigged me to something, but I didn't notice that until I was writing this post.

No movies for me. Guess I'll catch one, maybe both, tomorrow. I'm tempted to go to the first showing, then put in my day's work afterward...
