When you hallucinate something very nasty leaping in your cube at you, maybe it is time to go. Nothing was there. I can see the fnords.

I am: way, way past tired
Current Media: voices in my head

or you have half-invisible big nasties in your office. Hard to tell...

I could say "welcome to my world", but I won't.

Those are called gneechees, at least they were termed thus by Alan Dean Foster in his spellsinger books.

I think it may be a sign that you need to take a vacation, or possibly just get more sleep.

Alan Dean Foster must use that idea a lot, because he has a whole book based on this invisible nasties idea... Interlopers.

And yeah, it's time to go home and pull yourself together if you see things like this. Then, if they are real, you will be rested and better able to cope.

Interlopers was invisible nasties that are responsible for a significant portion of the world's ills, and they feed off bad emotion (and promote it to a degree).

gneechees are more the things that you see out of the corner of your eye that when you turn to look they aren't there anymore.

I made an assumption that it was a gneechee, because I'd seen them too, and I'll jump or be paranoid for a while because the thing that was moving (toward me, or just moving)isn't there. If he's seeing them materialize full on, and then charge him, that's different and I agree he should go home and rest.

Both of these are, of course, different from dream cats. And I think I'm the only one who's been plagued by one of those, though I do kind of miss it.

Anyone can see the fnords. It's the wumpus (wumpi?) you've got to watch out for.

"No, sir, what you have there is an anteater. A lion is a huge, ferocious beast with vicious teeth and claws, it looks like this."
