purly had made a post earlier referring to: http://www.gmail-is-too-creepy.com/

I started a comment this morning, but then had a busy day at work, and only got back to it at the end of the day - but in the meantime it looks like she killed the post. So I'll just make my comment on the site here...

I think they're being excessively paranoid and pissing into the wind - most of their arguments can be applied to existing services. And others are moving to match GMail on storage, etc. If the service proves to be popular then other sites will match GMail.

If you want your email to be private - encrypt it, or stop whining. You should have no expectations that any email you send will remain private. You can trust that the recipient won't share it, that's a personal judgement. The courts have allowed ISPs to read any mail on their servers. It can be, and is, regularly stored in backups. Some people *already* save ALL of their received mail indefinitely. I don't, but I DO save mail from people I'm having ongoing exchanges with - and I have archives going back at least 10 years. I also save ALL my outgoing email, which often contains quotes from mail I'm responding to, and I have those archives going back over 10 years as well. There are some gaps from a couple of instances of data loss, but minor over all.

I am: tired tired

You are correct. Her logic is flawed. Anyone can save every message.
