The Ramblings of a Damaged Mind
I want a tachikoma!
I want my own cute, bubbly, artificially intelligent heavily armed and armored death machine. They're so cute! I mean, sure, everyone wants their own Major Kusanagi, but she's a handful. I just want a mini-tank with the personality of a Japanese schoolgirl on crystal meth and nitrous oxide. :-) As donnerjack put it: "They're cute, happy, bubbly armor plated death machines." (Not that I'd turn down a Kusanagi, mind you - though I was always partial to Deunan Knute.)

But in any case I must get the soundtrack. GitS: Standalone Complex has fantastic music - I really want to hear the full version of Lithium Flower (the end credit theme), and Inner Universe (the opening theme) gets stuck in my head readily. But what should I expect, it is another Yoko Kanno soundtrack. That tiny woman has freaky big talent... Apparently Inner Universe is partly in Russian. Ooh, they have the opening credits online... http://www.ghostintheshell.tv/multimedia.php

I sense a CDJapan order coming on. Wait... there are special edition releases in the US, with soundtrack CDs! Tally-Ho!

And yes, I'm going to bed. I left the office a bit after 03:00 and I hadn't fed in over 12 hours, so that was my first imperative. Now sated, I shall sleep - for a few hours anyway.

I am: exhausted exhausted

I love DVD Special Editions with CD Soundtracks BUT ALL my orders to Singapore haven't reached me. Animenation had to refund me monies after an order disappeared into the nebula, and Amazon keeps delaying my orders.

Has anyone had their Amazon order delayed THREE times?

I just ordered from BestPrices.com.

ooo-oh! Thanks! :)

The main problem is that most audio-visual media has to be screened when coming into Singapore. It is more a way of collecting revenue than protecting the delicate sensibilities of Singapore. I was hoping animation won't have to go through it (it's a cartoon, you know, like Disney *innocent look*) but I suspect there are dusty stacks of DVDs awaiting media censors' perusal.

The GITS:SAC soundtrack

Ja, 'Inner Universe' is mostly in Russian, with a bit of either French or Latin & English.
The rest of the tracks ain't bad, with the TV edit of 'Rise' & 'GET9' actually getting me to order the single they're on from CDJapan (along with a bunch of other anime OP/ED singles).

One thing to be aware of is the appearance of The Manga Curse affecting the OST in the SE vol. 1 set, with the tracks being frelled for...four tracks (it's listenable to, but not user friendly). There's a thread up in Glitch Disk on the AoD.fourm, 'bout it.

Thanks. I ordered the Special Edition of 1-7 (yeah, I know, pre-orders on 4-7). I'll see how the CD sounds and I may end up ordering from CDJapan too.

Loves Tachikomas and has a fondness for Deunan Knute...what can I say? You're a man after my own heart.

And possibly my legs. Stay away from the legs! They're mine! Get your own!

There are Three CDs for GitS:SAC. There's "First Gig", which has the opening soundtrack and Lithium Flower (the closing track) and all of the serious music. There's "Be Human," which contains all the music from the Tachikoma Specials (are they showing those on Cartoon Network? They're two-minute shorts featuring only the Tachikomas) including the incredible "If I Only Was More Human", and then there's "Second Gig", which is all the music from the second season.

And yes, it's all Yoko Kanno, and it's all quite amazing stuff. Although the piece "Where Does This Ocean Go?" is a direct rip-off of Bjork's "Oceania", glaringly so.

Not that I know of. I found my copy at Kinokinuya. For all I know it may have been a pirate Chinese knock-off, although the jewel case doesn't have that feel. (Chinese pirates all seem to buy their jewel cases from the same place, some manufacturer nobody else buys from; the plastic is brittle and almost unnaturally sharp-edged.)

After a few listens, "Be Human" started to run *higher* on my MP3 playlist than the others. It's more thoughtful and introspective, and I liked that approach.

CN isn't showing the shorts - but I've ordered the DVDs.

Actually I think I own the first non-special edition already, I think I picked it up on impluse a few weeks ago.

Yes on the music. I didn't fast forward through the intro, so it must be decent

Er, no on the Japanese-schoolgirl-sounding thing. That goes, "AAAHHH! hit the button! MUTE MUTE MUTE! It's going to TALK!" around here. By which, of course, the pain has past. :-)

I know someone you know recommended this to me, but I really don't get it. It's kind of okay as a show, but feels a lot like watching Mexican television... even though I can sort of understand the language, what they're doing makes no sense.
