"His refrigerated rig is carrying an everyday load - nine tons of margarine and twelve tons of flour, destined for a food factory in Milan." - Narrator

Maybe not that ominous normally - but I'm watching an episode of Seconds from Disaster entitled Tunnel Inferno.

This does not bode well. :-)

What was going through my mind, as I watched it due to my Tivo recording it automatically due to a standing Season Pass (I love shows like that - disastesr/forensics/how-do-they-figure-it-out?), was...

"WHAT are they planning to MAKE with that much margarine and flour!? Do I want to know?"

If thats the disaster I think it is one of the comments I can remember from a different series which looked into disasters was that if the driver had kept going until he got out of the tunnel then the disaster probably wouldn't have happened. AFAIR the speed of the lorry and the resulting airflow kept the flames somewhat in control, but when he stopped the fire really took hold.

Yeah, that was mentioned on this one too - that if he had kept going the flames *might* not have erupted as they did. But there is no way to be sure really - just similar situations where that worked.

"... and what is margarine made from?

Oooh. That's not going to go well."

- my thought process, roughly, when I watched that episode the first time
