Remember that toothache I mentioned a couple of weeks back, that I was sure was a cavity? Well, it went away on its own after a few days - before I ever got into the dentist. But I was worried enough to keep the appointment. Well, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with that tooth - but they did spot a cavity on my right rear molar. I thought i might have one there too, I noticed a small dark spot on in one of the crevices on the tooth while brushing. Yesterday I was back for a cleaning, and they found the start of another one on the left rear molar. Lest you think I'm some sugar fiend who doesn't take care of my teeth or something, the dentist said I had "very nice teeth" and the hygienist said I had "excellent home care". I've had a history of trouble with those two back teeth - apparently the crevices are unusually deep. When I was young I had some kind of sealer/filler done, but that wore out and I had to have it drilled out and redone. And it has been probably 7 years since then, probably just time again. So next Thursday I go under the drill.
The 7-Eleven Kiosk roll-out for work continues apace. So far, so good. We had our first real purchase from a consumer (as in, not someone who works for 7-Eleven, NCR, or us buying something just to do it) - an Avril Lavigne CD. We also see a lot of browsers - people putting things into carts then abandoning. But that's how it goes really. Hopefully more people will buy once they get used to the kiosks.
Speaking of work, in the past hour I think I completed the oft mentioned Perl port. I completed porting all of the files into Perl, and they compile/interpret OK. I don't have time to get into functional testing tonight, I'll start that tomorrow. Then I get to see if I got it right the first time, or, more likely, just what I have to redo. There are a couple of things I'm not confident in - the functions in MSXML (used by the ASP) differ from LibXML, so I had to do a little best guess choosing as to which method to call in a couple of cases. But overall I think it should be fairly solid. If it all works, then I'll go back and optimize a few things, and add a lot more comments.
The new guy at work is getting up to speed fairly quickly. He's 23 - makes me feel old since my mental self-image is rooted at around 23. (I'm 32.) He works crazy hours like I did at that age too.
I haven't had any time to work on adding features to the Gweep Rolodex, I've been too busy with the Perl at work. But if this port really does work, I'm hoping to get to it soon.
First though, z_gryphon is almost ready to wrap up another Eyrie Production, one that I want to be involved with, so I have to *make* time to work on it ASAP or I lose. And that'd really suck. He's been cranking on it for the past few weeks with some of the other folks - unfortunately directly coinciding with my crunch at work with the roll-out happening. So I've been pretty much out of the loop, not by choice but because I just haven't had time to do much of *anything*. Since my uberboss let folks leave early last Friday, but I couldn't because I had work that needed to be done - and I in fact ended up staying very late - I'm going to attempt to either take Friday off, or blow out of here earlier. That'll be easier if I do have the Perl working. Then I can use Friday to write. (I wish I could be a prolific as z_gryphon, he can really crank it out.)
And now I must flee to grab some dinner, then meet jehanna and articelf to see The Matrix Reloaded at 22:00.
