X2100: low end, works. RAID supported by win2K/2K3 and possibly Linux but not yet Solaris. Cheap and chearful but not much redundancy.

X4200: nice kit, well built, not too expensive. Depending on what disk configuration you want it would probably stay under $10K even with dual cpu dual core 16G, and I suppose you've probably got some discount from list price? (I don't think _anyone_ pays list for Sun).

V40z: also nice kit, but big case, heavy, might be oversized for shallow racks, definitely a 2-person job to lift, and rather power hungry. Getting a bit outdated.

No experience with the 4100 and V20z.
