Marie Osmond Shocked by Daughters’ Online Sex Postings
Marie Osmond says she was shocked to read her teenage daughters Internet sex postings, according to the National Enquirer.

I'm not even sure why, but I'm darkly amused by this. Though I do think there is a problem, somewhere, when a 16 year old is proclaiming herself to be a "slut" and a "whore", anywhere. I'm just not shocked it is on MySpace. I thought the primary purpose of MySpace was for jail bait to tout their wares. That's what it seems to be anyway. (Yes, I have a MySpace account. Primarily just to lock it before someone else took the name, my sole entry points here.)

When Marie was the kid's age, she had the reputation of being one of the most "wholesome" celebrities in America, so her being "shocked" doesn't shock me.

But I am very disappointed in a culture that has taken the shock value of those "Anglo-Saxon synonyms" that when Marie was still on Prime-Time with Donny would get a teen or pre-teen into trouble for saying. (Back in middle school in 1980, a friend of mine was sent to the school Principal for saying the word "slut" in class after hearing it on Saturday Night Live. I was on line behind him...for another reason.) By allowing the pop culture to ameliorate those words to the mainstream, we have perjorated our language as a whole.

Well, language keeps changing. Remember that at one time 'dork' was also a 'dirty word'. And 'suck' doesn't exactly have innocent roots. People also say SNAFU and FUBAR regularly without a thought to the expansions.

In the case of 'slut' I don't think the meaning has changed, but attitudes have. It used to be that a slut was a bad thing to be, now girls are proudly calling themselves sluts.

so what's her username? 8)

Anyway, she also said she dreamed about padiddlin' with David Bowie, and really, who doesn't?

David Bowie bends other people's genders. :-)

Ah, the Osmonds.
When I lived/worked in Branson (I was a Dixie Stampede rider..long story made short for ya there) we used to see them troop the kids into the same shop I got my hair done in.
I remember always thinking of that old Groucho Marx show, where he's got the woman with a shitton of kids on, and she says, "But, but, I LOVE my husband!"
And Groucho replies, "Well, I love my cigars, but I take em out of my mouth every once in a while!"
The fact that they call themselves that suprises me very little. The fact that Marie didn't know about their internet habits til now, suprises me even less.
