Today was a good day. I got up with a few hours to spare, so I relaxed and did some reading. Then it was off to Natick to catch Superman Returns in IMAX 3D. They're using the polarized lens system, and I swear there must be one supplier of the glasses because every time I have see a movie that uses it - at Disney, etc - they're the same yellow plastic frames, same shape, etc. But they work. The technology is coming along nicely. I remember seeing Captain EO years ago at Disney, and more recently things like Honey, I Shrunk The Audience and Muppets 3D. But this is the first feature film I've seen using it - and it worked well, I thought. It was sold out, and I ended up in a rear corner, so I didn't have the best seat in the house, but it still looked good to me. And this movie wasn't filmed in 3D, it was converted from 2D. I'd bet that films filmed in 3D from the start look even better. The only downside was that they didn't convert the entire movie (I understand it was time constraints), so there was the 4th wall break of taking the glasses off and putting them on. But that wasn't too bad.
The movie itself was good - a good, solid Superman movie. It avoided being cheesy, and Kevin Spacey really chewed up scenery as Lex Luthor. I thought he really stole the show, but Spacey is a great actor.
After the movie ninjarat and I hit Tennessee's BBQ, which is just across Rt.9 from Jordan's IMAX, and it was good. I haven't had BBQ in ages, so it really hit the spot. Then it was time to head home, and I picked up a sundae at Friendly's to cap the night. I chatted for a while with a new friend online, and I just spent some time catching up on LJ and watching Steam Detectives DVDs. Now it is time to crash I think.
