Re: IE

IE is the worst thing to ever happen to the web. It is FAR more bugs than Firefox, Opera, or Safari. Even Microsoft has said so - REPEATEDLY. Bill Gates himself has publically apologized for the crappy state of IE6, while promising that they would not make the same mistake with IE7. (We'll see.)

IE6 doesn't support most modern web standards. Worse it has incorrect handling of several, which means you can't even use them without bad behavior from IE. At least when it just ignores things you can design things that degrade.

And if you've never run into trouble in IE then I would question just how much you try to do, really. Try to do interactive menus with just XHTML+CSS - no JavaScript - in IE. It is SUPPOSED to work by standards that have been out for years - and it does work in Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Not IE. That's just one example. Simple columns is no big deal.

Anyone who defends IE is delusional IMHO. Microsoft themselves disagrees and won't defend IE6, they openly criticize it and have stated, again, repeatedly, that IE6 is a bad browser with too many security flaws and lacking standards support. They're even pushing IE7 out as a *critital* update to all Automatic Update users, because they feel replacing IE6 is vital for usability and security.

As far as I'm concerned anyone who says IE is a decent tool is full of shit and not worth taking seriously.
