Nervous and excited...
I just ordered a Samsung HL-S6187W 61" Widescreen DLP 1080p HDTV. Big purchase, but I've been waiting for years to make the jump and now is the time. :-) It should ship tomorrow and I should see it next week. *squee*

Oooh, a faster spinning five-color color wheel. Hopefully you won't have the "moving rainbow" issue I have on my DLP. (Which, honestly, isn't that bad.)

Yeah, my research indicates rainbowing isn't an issue with these sets.

Read tugrik's LJ about his, and/or email him and drop my name.

He loves his.

i've been shopping for one in the past few months. been *seriously* thinking about getting one (not quite that large!) sometime sooon. any recommendations?

How large are you looking for? They also have the HL-S5687W which is 56" and the HL-S5087W which is 50". My understanding is that all of the *87 models have basically the same internals and features. The *88 is kind of the 'premium' version of the *87, with things like built in CableCARD tuners and PIP, but I've never wanted PIP and I use external tuners, so the added cost didn't make sense.

In my research the Samsung sets seemed to be one of the best options for the money. 1080p display and real 1080p input over HDMI. A lot of 1080p sets only accept 1080i input and scale it internally. But there are devices coming, like the PS3 and Blu-ray players, which can output 1080p natively so I wanted something that will last me a number of years with no regrets.

I'd been considering the Toshiba 62HM195, and almost went with it because it is hundreds of dollars cheaper - but it doesn't accept 1080p input and the Samsung is supposed to have a better picture. And I just like the design of the set better too - I like the black borders over the silver of the Toshiba, and it is very slim.

Yeah. It is going to hurt for a few months, but I can manage it if I don't have another weekend like this one with the car and Treo. That was one of the reasons it really got to me - I was planning this big buy and having $300 in unexpected expenses right beforehand was disquieting.

So...can I come to your house and watch the world series, then? ;-)

That's slick. What are you gonna do without a HD TiVo?

Oh, I'll get a Series3, and probably a PS3, to feed it.
