I finally got around to setting up the Linksys WRT54GL I bought several weeks ago, to replace the Netgear WGT624 which had been getting increasingly flaky. I flashed it with HyperWRT+Thibor and turned up the transmit power to 84mW, and now I'm getting a decent 48/54Mbps connection on my laptop in my living room, when I used to be lucky to keep 11Mbps. Thanks to the recent TiVo update to 8.1 I'm also running WPA2-PSK with AES now, instead of WEP-128. So I have real security instead of pretend security. Though entering a long WPA pass-phrase via TiVo's oujia board is kind of a pain in the ass. I'll have to play around with this software some more and see what it can do.
