Yes, you CAN die from too much water
A mother of three died from water intoxication after a radio station drinking competition, a California coroner said on Saturday. Jennifer Strange, 28, competed in Sacramento station KDND 107.9's "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest to try to win Nintendo's console for her children.

I've seen comments from people who said they didn't know this was possible. Maybe it is just all the time I spent on alt.suicide.holiday back in college, but, yes, you can die from an overdose of water. Too much water upsets the chemical balance of the body, mainly sodium, and it can cause cells to burst.

I guess she needed to have a lot of high-sodium foods before the contest.

The biology behind this was covered in my elementary school education.

The idiots who came up with this contest or the one who managed to kill herself participating? You make the call, but somebody here is definitely a winner.

Check out the link at the bottom to the article I linked to - the one about the dry ice contest. In that case they're ALL winners.

One of my buddies was an Army recruit awaiting the start of Basic Training on base when he came down with a fever. The field medics forced him to overhydrate and it came close to killing him. He had to take a Medical Discharge even before reporting for Basic.
