I put in 13.2 gallons... I have a 12 gallon tank.

?!?

Or do USians measure tanks without counting the reserve?

I think they consider it 'usable'. Technically I think it is 12.1 gallons, or something like that. I've run it down to 'E' before and needed maybe 12.4 gallons, and I top it off even though ever gas station asks you not to. ;-) I was a bit surprised to see it hit 13 and keep going. So I must've really used the full tank.

Yes, I've learnt in driving school that running on the bottom of tank may not be that good for the motor, because that's where all the gunk piles.

So I must've really used the full tank.

I did test the tank in my car to capacity, since I have (and can't get, it's too old) a manual for it. 85 litres. Impresses the hell out of people with new cars that boast they can go for 700 km on one tank-fill since I can top that (with the big tank) (all of that for west-european standards of cars&tanks, of course).

The Fiat Punto I had before was supposed to have a 40-litre-tank, and it held quite exactly (to ~ 1 %) that.

I drove a car (boat) in high school with a 33 gallon tank. It went about 200 miles before needing to be filled. Can we say low mileage?
