Erm. I'm reasonably confident that I wouldn't have been able to, erm, rise to the occasion at that age. If you know what I mean. And I think you do.

Don't be fooled by the grade. Look at the ages: 11, 12, .. 13? I mean, what kind of 5th grade was this? I certainly couldn't have prevented rising to the occasion at that age ;-)

11 seems right for 5th grade. Most Kindergartens won't take kids until they're 5. Then 1-5 makes them 11. Actually, I'd say 10-12 is a fair range because of varying birth dates, etc.

The 13 year old - he was probably held back a grade or two at some point. :-) (Maybe the 12 year old too.)

And in typical CNN fashion lately, the story headline was not:

13 year old has sex with 12 year old while 11 year old keeps lookout

But instead:

5th-graders charged with having sex in class (Watch Video)

I mean, can I click one that Watch Video link? What am I getting into here?

... and in typical overreacting fashion they have these kids arrested...
I mean, presuming it was consensual I'd think it reasonable to have the principal give them a stern talk about the difference between things you do in a crowded classroom and things for which other locations are more appropriate.

Yeah, I think counseling is probably indicated here, not juvie. Unless, by arresting them, they can be sentenced to counseling and forced to go. They do that sometimes.
