I finally got out and saw Grindhouse tonight. I was hoping to see it last weekend, but I never managed to fit it in. It is a three hour movie (well, double feature), and there just wasn't a good time to fit it in. Anyway, I promised myself I'd see it today - and I'm glad I did. It was a blast! As you may know, it is a double feature consisting of Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez and Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino. There are also fake trailers for non-existent fake movies - Machete by Robert Rodriguez, Werewolf Women of the S.S. by Rob Zombie, Don't by Edgar Wright, and Thanksgiving by Eli Roth. You know, I'd go see Machete, and possibly Werewolf Women of the S.S. (just because it is Rob Zombie).

I had a lot of fun, but I would say that Planet Terror is definitely the best part of the movie. I could've left after the mid-point trailers and been perfectly happy. I don't think Death Proof was bad, but it didn't really stand out. Tarantino likes long talking-head scenes too much. There was a lot of time spent with characters just talking about nothing really. I wouldn't even call it character development, just jabber. There were some good scenes, and I did love the way it ended, but if it was a standalone film I would've been let down. But, as a package with Planet Terror and the trailers, just as a whole experience, it was a fun. From what I've read the 'lost reels' are out there, and will be included when the films are released separately in some countries, and hopefully they'll be included on the home video release as well. If you see it, you'll know the bits I mean. ;-)

I think it is definitely worth seeing. Lots of fun. :-)

It turns out that you'll have a chance to see Machete, since it's slated to be released direct to dvd when Grindhouse comes gets it's dvd release. :)

I am in full agreement. Loved Planet Terror, thought Death Proof should have come first and then I might have liked it.
