Friday is my birthday - come to Nick's
Friday is my birthday, and Nicole down at Nick's has requested I celebrate it there - which admittedly didn't take a lot of arm twisting since that's where I hang out. So if you're not doing anything the day after xmas, and you're in the Worcester area of course, come on down to Nick's. I'll probably head down there around 19:00-20:00. Looks like Dan Burke will be on the piano Friday, he's pretty good.

I was visiting Nicole and family tonight and she said my friends could contact her before Friday if interested... I get the feeling she's up to something but I don't know what. You can get her through the MySpace page I believe.

On an unrelated note, I realize I never said anything when my power came back on. It came back around 18:00 on Sunday the 14th, just a day after I bought the generator. I was without power for a total of about 64 hours, which isn't so bad. But it happened right at a very busy time for work and that left me scrambling the rest of the week. Actually I started working before power came back, using the generator. But that's eased off a bit. Two of the betas I was running were Windows Mobile Pro & Standard, and we just released that SlingPlayer Mobile update yesterday. The other is the SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry, and we've announced that's going into Public Beta on 12/30. That'll still be going for a while yet in Private Beta as well. I'm also off to CES in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. I'll be going as both a blogger and industry, working in Sling's booth.

Aw man, I'd totally go if I were over there.

So when are you moving to California?

I don't know - honestly not sure if I will now, been having second thoughts.

Yeah, I was wondering, since it had been a while since there had been any news on that front...

Also, Happy birthday! 8)

It has been one thing after another. I was running the PRO-HD beta and that had to get out in time for the holidays, so there was no way I was moving while that was running. Then I took on the SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry beta, which is the next high profile project and that's just going into Public Beta in 12/30, but still goes after that before release. CES is coming up and I'm working Sling's booth and blogging, I'll be in Las Vegas 1/4-1/12. So that kind of blows January. Then in mid-February I'm going to Florida for a couple of weeks to see my folks.

So the first opportunity to move would be March - provided nothing else comes up by then.

And there is still the house situation. I can't sell it in this market, which means I'd have to rent it out. And that makes me nervous for several reasons - primarily being an absentee landlord so I can't keep an eye on things and what happens if my renters bail and I'm left hanging with a mortgage to pay? I'd be screwed.

And there are some changes happening at work, or potential changes, so I want to see what happens.

Of course, there is also just the fact that I dread moving and all the hassle involved. And I've started to enjoy life more since I found Nick's as a place I love to hang out and I've made some more friends, etc.

I haven't ruled out moving, and I do really love the Bay Area, but it isn't as clear as it was. Work had been pushing me to move because HR didn't want to deal with bringing me on full time while I lived in MA, but someone higher up forced the issue and they had to do it anyway. Now that they've had to do the work to make me salaried in MA they've backed off trying to get me to move ASAP.

If I don't move I do want to try to get out to CA more often to visit the office. Maybe once a quarter or once ever couple of months, if I can work that out.
