Warning, the world is coming to an end, MegaZone has a job.
I've kept quiet about this since Friday since I didn't want to jinx myself, and my overly pessimistic attitude prevails most of the time anyway. Friday I went in to interview at a place called Cyphermint in Marlborough, MA. 421 Boston Post Road, right near RCN and the few gweeps left there. Very easy commute from Worcester too, which is nice.

Well, before I'd left the building, I was hired. Everyone liked me, they seemed to think I had the right skills, and after I'd met with the folks they'd planned to have me speak with they had me talk to the CEO. By the end of that talk he'd said something like "We'll get an offer letter out to you." So things looked pretty damn good, but I knew that the manager I'd be working for had actually been interviewing others *and* had more people coming in today. It was obvious the CEO was kind of pulling rank and I was worried about them maybe talking about it after I'd left and deciding to wait and see or something. But I just called to confirm and they said my letter went into the mail today, so I'll probably have it tomorrow. They even said I could start tomorrow if I wanted to, but I have some errands I've been putting off that I need to take care of before I start, so I might not start until Monday. (Like the *two* recall notices on my car I've been meaning to get to for over a month now...)

t is a small company, about 25 people apparently, which I generally like. It makes me a little nervous, since they're very much still a startup and just a couple years old, but the worst that can happen is I'm out of work again. :-)

There is a downside - since they do online payment and money transfers, etc, most of their client base is a bit stodgy. Which means jeans and T-shirts aren't going to cut it. So I'm going to at least have to pick up some more dockers and more decent shirts to wear, and probably a couple of suits for the high end. I have a couple of suits that I got several years ago, but I'm unfortunately a bit heavier than I used to be, so I'll see about having them altered. I also need new dress shirts, I tossed all of my old dress shirts some time ago.

So, it looks like I'll be a productive member of society again soon. I am a bit nervous - new job after not working full time since last *JUNE*. I know I'm rusty on things, and on an intellectual level I'm pretty sure I can get back up to speed fast, but on a gut level I'm feeling "Please don't let me fuck this up."

I am: happy happy

Congrats on the job!

Hope the job goes well for you and that the business attire isn't too irksome to deal with.

I'm guessing you won't remember me (11 years ago, Usenet, Bradford University) but maybe the name Richard "Khare" Dodgin will strike a bell? Anyway, ardaniel is how I came across you once more - it's a small world I guess...

On the clothes front:

Old Navy, Ross and TJ Maxx tend to have clearance area of "odd" sizes that will fit most normal human beings. That's where I got my latest batch of decent pants and polos.

The problem there being the operative 'normal human being'. I'm 6'6" and, frankly, fat. I end up having to shop at places like Casual Male Big & Tall, etc. Even when I was in better shape that was the case, just from height.

[j/k] And here I was going to suggest that you could wear one or two of the suits I have, but they go to my knees (and you have nearly a foot of height on me), so it probably wouldn't work.

On the other hand, trying second hand places for cheap suit jackets sometimes works (it's how I find ones appropriate for costuming).
